(assuming you’re doing that because of a traffic ticket)

Oh, I assume full responsibility. I got a seat belt ticket back in October, and the deadline to complete the course is Tuesday.

100% TRU FAX!!!!!

I went to a weekend DD class (at some middle school of all places) once with a cousin and my uncle. Just 20 minutes into the VHS tape, I hear a loud snore. I turn around and my uncle (sitting in a desk that barely supported him) had his head tilted back, mouth wide open, and snoring extremely loud lol!

Was your head already shaved or was that part of falling asleep on the desk? I could see it both ways, depending on the particular kids/SO/roommates.

And at least they stuck the pen in your mouth .

No, the shaved head happened in prison. I’d rather not talk about it.

Instructor: ttyymmnn what did you do wrong?

ttyymmnn: I got caught.

Instructor: no, that’s not corre-

ttyymmnn: yes that is the correct. What I did was violate a law that does not harm anyone else but me. You should wear your seatbelt because it could save your life, not because the law says you should. If people can ride their motorcycle without a helmet, I should be allowed to drive my car without a damn seatbelt on.

(drops mic, walks out of class, classroom cheers)

Wearing seat belts saves lives, and helps keep everybody’s insurance rates lower. And whether I agree with the law or not, it’s the law, and I broke it. I bitch about the time I’m spending having to do this course, but it’s my own fault and I accept the consequences.

In Michigan, all you need is a $20,000 in first party medical coverage for your insurance and you can ride without a helmet. It’s such a small impact on the insurance rate, that Progressive made all their motorcycle policies Michigan start at $20,000.

But why would anybody want to ride without a helmet?

This is my argument every time.

Motorcylist with no helmet hits tree at 25 mph - potential serious injury

F150 with no seatbelt hits tree at 25 mph - dammit I ruined my bumper!

Montego said it. I have never understood the “fun” about riding with no helmet. Last summer I was riding at about 45 mph, flipped up my visor real quick to get some ventilation and a stone hit me in the cheek. That frickin hurt real bad. I can’t imagine catching something in the eye or something bigger without a visor

It’s not what I would call a small impact, Progressive just decided that it was futile to try to enforce helmet vs no helmet minimum rates.

Insurance rates through Progressive for my 2012 CRF450X - $97, for my 1977 CB750 - $17. those are for the year too. Now what sucks is on top of that I have to pay $186 for each due to the stupid MCCA fee, which is a flat rate for anything with a license plate.

Back in the late 70s, my mom worked as an EMT in rural Illinois. She once said that picking up a helmetless rider who had crashed was “like picking up a sack of marbles.”

My aha! moment was a wasp at 80 mph. It bounced off one uncovered arm (that hurt!) into the other uncovered arm where it paused long enough to sting me (yeeaaaooouuuch!). There was also the daily cleansing of the dead mosquitoes off the brow of my helmet. They were thick enough to turn a white helmet gray.

I believe it. I started on dirt bikes at 10 years old and never touched pavement until 19 years later. Think that’s why I always have the helmet. I’ve fallen/crashed enough on dirt to know that I need it, and if I had not been wearing it, I’d likely be too brain damaged or dead to ride again

Routinely, I see guys here in Austin riding on the interstate with no helmet, tank top and flip flops. I guess they’ve never seen pictures of a degloving injury.

Oh, man. DO NOT google “degloving injury”! I know what it means, but I never, ever, ever, want to see examples again.

Same here, my life or at the very least my looks have been saved more than a couple times offroad by my helmet.

Thank you mom for all the nagging!

I remember watching a special about Evel Knievel, he was on the phone with his son and his son said he got a ticket for riding without a helmet. Evel’s response was “humpty dumpty sat on the wall, humpty dumpty had a great fall, all the kings men could not put humpty back together again, because humpty dumpty was too frickin stupid to not wear his damn helmet”
